SANTA ANA — Mater Dei, led by quarterback Elijah Brown, put forth a dominant performance Saturday night as it rolled to victory against Creekside of Georgia in its first home game at Santa Ana Stadium under new head coach Frank McManus.
The Monarchs beat Creekside 62-0 after leading 48-0 at halftime.
Creekside (2-1) entered the game ranked No. 78 in the nation by MaxPreps. Mater Dei (3-0) is ranked No. 1.
“It was exciting,” McManus said. “It’s always great to come to The Bowl with the stands packed and get a win. I couldn’t be more pleased with the guys. It’s nice to see all the hard work come into play on the field.”
Brown threw for 372 yards and seven touchdowns, both career highs. The Stanford commit completed 19 of 22 passes, with passes going to seven different receivers and the touchdowns to five different receivers.
“I felt great but everything goes out to the offensive line and the receivers making plays. I couldn’t do anything without them,” Brown said. “I think we’ve gotten better each week and hopefully we keep growing from here.”
Brown’s previous career-high in passing yards and touchdowns came against Norco in the first round of the playoffs his sophomore season in 2021. He threw for 369 yards with six touchdowns in that game.
Marcus Harris led the Mater Dei receivers with 102 yards on five catches with a touchdown.
Marcus Brown had 92 yards on four receptions with two touchdowns in the first half. Sophomore Jonah Smith caught four passes for 81 yards with two touchdowns.
Jordon Davison led the Monarchs in rushing with 90 yards on seven carries with a touchdown.
Mater Dei wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Elijah Brown threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Brown on the second play from scrimmage to give the Monarchs a 6-0 lead.
After a fumble recovery by Ramere Davis, Davison scored on a 12-yard run to extend the lead to 13.
Ajon Bryant had a 56-yard run that set up a 20-yard touchdown pass from Elijah Brown to Smith.
Elijah Brown connected with sophomore Jewellz “Juju” Parm for a 46-yard touchdown near the end of the first quarter.
Mater Dei picked up where it left off early in the second quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Smith to extend the lead to 34-0.
Elijah Brown connected with Kayden Dixon-Wyatt for a 24-yard touchdown and with Marcus Brown for a 13-yard score to give the Monarchs a 48-0 lead at halftime.
The second half was played with a running clock.
