Fairmont Prep’s girls basketball team captured its second tournament Thursday by defeating a traditional Southern California power.
Adyra Rajan scored 17 points and Sarah Aldeguer posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Huskies defeated Long Beach Poly 54-31 to claim the Mike Desper Division at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Mesa, Arizona.
Senior Jazzy Mercado added nine points and six rebounds as the Huskies (11-3) added the prestigious title to a resume that includes winning the Villa Park Shootout tournament.
Rajan, a sophomore, was selected tournament MVP while Aldeguer earned all-tournament honors.
Fairmont Prep, ranked eighth in Orange County under first-year coach Josh Lozano, went 4-0 in the tournament, including two wins against out-of-state teams.

Ontario Christian 60, No. 1 Mater Dei 58: Star freshman Kaleena Smith had 26 points and eight assists as the Knights handed Orange County’s top-ranked team its first loss against a Southern Section foe.
Mater Dei (10-3) played without Duke-bound post Jenessa Cotton (back) and lost reigning O.C. player of the year Addison Deal early in the game to an ankle injury, Monarchs coach Kevin Kiernan said.
Kiernan said the Deal’s injury was “pretty bad” and required a trip to the hospital.
In the Orange League:
Calvary Chapel 67, No. 25 St. Margaret’s 65 (OT): Marley Zaky stole a pass in the backcourt and scored with about 2 seconds left off an assist by Lindsey Kobayashi to lift the visiting and defending league champion Eagles (8-5, 4-0) past the reigning CIF-SS Division 5-AA champion Tartans (10-4 3-1).
Junior point guard Micaela Hanning of Calvary Chapel scored the final five points of regulation to force overtime and finished with a season-high 32 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior Harper Gideons scored 23 points to lead St. Margaret’s.
In nonleague:
Portola 61, San Juan Hills 59: Junior Nina Saiki scored 20 points and Kalynne Abraham-Mendez had 15 and played strong defense to lead the visiting Bulldogs (11-2), who stayed hot after winning the Sunny Hills Showcase.
Vanguard committed point guard Aryanna Hudson scored 26 points for the Stallions (8-7).
