A 43-year-old man was arrested in Redlands on Wednesday on suspicion of fatally shooting a man in Colton last week.
The shooting occurred on Dec. 8 in the 600 block of East C Street where the victim, identified as 38-year-old Lester Cruz, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Cruz was hospitalized and later died from his injury, police said.
Around 11:44 a.m. on Wednesday, detectives from the Colton Police Department identified and detained the suspect, Eric Brandon Lopez, in Redlands with the assistance of the Redlands Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Division, police said in statement. Lopez was arrested on suspicion of homicide and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
Details surrounding the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting were not released.
Police do not believe the shooting was gang-related, Colton Police Sgt. Robert Vega said.
